What is NAET - Allergy Elimination?

NAET is short for Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques.  NAET was developed by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, an acupuncturist, chiropractor and medical doctor who suffered from severe allergies.  These highly effective techniques combine ancient Oriental Medicine with conventional Western Medicine and modern Energy Medicine.

What Are Allergies?

Allergies are an abnormal response of the immune system.  People with allergies have an immune system that reacts to a usually harmless substance in the environment.  This substance (pollen, mold, animal dander, etc.) is called an allergen.  People can develope allergies to anything.  Allergies are a very common problem, affecting at least 1 out of every 5 Americans.

How does the treatment work?

NAET is based on the theory and concepts of Oriental Medicine and electromagnetic energy.  Your body has a flow of electrical currents called meridians or energy channels.  Blockage occurs in the meridians when the body has an allergic reaction.  Blockages of different meridians result in different symptoms.  By stimulating key acupressure points along the spine while the patient is holding an allergen vial, the electromagnetic energy is altered in the patient’s body thereby eliminating and neutralizing the allergic response.  A chemical, enzymatic, and physiologic change occurs, which neutralizes the immune mediators and interrupts the antigen-antibody reaction.  This clears the energy blockages and notifies the brain that the allergen has been desensitized.

What happens during a NAET treatment?

Using a process known as NMRT - Neuro-Muscular Response Testing,  the allergen(s) effecting your body’s systems and health are determined & confirmed.  The process of “clearing” or desensitizing an allergen involves mild activation of acupressure points along the spine.  Based on the patient’s preference, additional acupressure or acupuncture is utilized.  This activation of acupuncture points in the presence of an allergen substance reprograms the patient’s brain to accept substances that it had previously identified as harmful or toxic.  Avoidance of the allergen for a 25 hour period completes the therapy.  The result is allergy elimination. 

How many treatments does it take?  

For most allergens being treated, usually one or two sessions are needed for clearing that particular item.  Only one allergen can be cleared or treated per visit.  This is not only because your body is actively focused on the one allergen, but also because it would be difficult for your body to go through this procedure with multiple allergens at the same time.  Severe allergies usually take multiple sessions. 

Are the results permanent?  

There is an over 80% success rate. If the allergy is not complicated, one treatment should do the job.  Some allergies can be more difficult to eliminate & can require multiple treatments. 

Can pregnant women, children, the elderly or infirmed be treated?  

NAET is so safe that even pregnant women and their fetus benefit.  NAET is safe and beneficial to people of all ages.  NAET babies are generally happy, healthy and alert.  When a baby, small child or someone infirmed is being treated,  a surrogate will be used, typically the parent or a loved one. 

What about anaphylaxis? 

In cases of life threatening allergies, the goal is to minimize reactions in case there is an accidiental exposure. 

It generally takes multiple sessions to gradually and safely resolve any severe allergic reactions. 

It is critical to continue to treat any allergen or health condition (especially when anaphylaxis reactions are possible) with all drugs prescribed. 

Only your prescribing medical doctor can recommend when and how you should modify your prescription medications. 

Traditional allergy tests (blood tests) should be repeated approximately one year after finishing all NAET treatments to be certain that these allergies have been completely eliminated.  Occassionally further NAET treatments are needed.

Will I still need an Epi-pen?

YES - both during and after treatment. 

It is critical to continue to treat any allergen or health condition (especially when anaphylaxis reactions are possible) with all drugs prescribed. 

Only your prescribing medical doctor can recommend when and how you should modify your prescription medications.

[ Plan to arrive 15 before your appointment time so you have time to relax, use the restroom and drink some water. 

[ Eat a snack that is appropriate for your health needs within one hour of your appointment time.

[ You are expected to maintain your own treatment and food records in your NAET Guide Book.

[ You can not eat or chew gum during the treatment.

[ Please do not smoke or wear strong perfume prior to a treatment.  These odors can affect the testing and treatment of yourself and other patients in the office.

Can pets be treated too?

Yes, only by using a surrogate.

Is there an order that’s followed in treating allergens?  

Yes.  Food items are checked and cleared first. There is a list of foods called The Basics that includes 15 foods and nutrients that must be first evaluated.  The Basics clear about 75% of the most common food allergies.  By clearing foods and nutrients first, we strengthen the immune system by improving digestion and absorption.  This allows your body to get the necessary nutrients that are essential when undergoing the subsequent treatments for more . 

What you need to know to receive the most effective treatment:

Successful elimination of allergies requires clearing of all major allergens.  These may include allergies to vitamins and/or minerals and must be cleared before treating other items.  Many food allergies originate from an allergy to vitamins within the food.  If such vitamins are not cleared, the foods containing those nutrients will remain allergenic.  Furthermore, the body does not fully absorb nutrients that have become allergies, and the immune system may not be strong enough to hold following treatments.  Because of this important factor,  the initial allergens are treated in a specific order.

Typically, following the treatment, the allergen must be avoided for 25 hours.  You may not eat or touch the substance.  If the allergen is impossible to avoid, as in the case of dust or pollens, you will need to wear a dust mask (provided) for five hours following the treatment.

After the major allergies are cleared, you may eliminate any allergy in any order, including remaining food items, inhalants, environmental allergies, contactants, etc.  If no major food allergies are present, all other allergies may be cleared at any time.

In some cases it is possible to treat numerous items in one treatment. 

NMRT (Neuro-Muscular Response Testing) generally is a good indicator in customizing a treatment.
